Discussion Questions:  Please reply and share your answers below:
1. The estimated cost of these Games is $13 billion (US) – far less than the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics, which were the most expensive ever at over $50 billion (US). Still, $13 billion is a huge amount of money! As you see it, are the Olympic Games worth the cost? Give reasons to support your response.
2. Consider the following statement: No matter how hard the IOC tries to prevent doping, people still cheat and get away with it at the Olympics. The IOC should stop testing for performance-enhancing drugs and let people do what they want with their bodies. Do you agree or disagree with this statement? Give reasons to support your response.
3. Do you plan to watch the Olympics and Paralympics? Why or why not?
4.  What has been your favourite winter sport to watch?  Why are you enjoying it?

  3. In my opinion, The Winter Olympics worth the cost. The meaning of the Olympics is to unite the world, it’s the symbol of peace. The host country spent this money not only to make a contribution to the world but also to show their national power. It makes sense.

  4. In my opinion, hosting the Olympic Games definitely worth the cost. The Olympic Games give competitors the possibility to perform fairly and honestly to the best of their natural ability. By competing, atheletes not only becomes stronger physically, but also gains a positive attitude. After all, it’s the Olympic spirit that worth the amount of money spent each time. As we always say, the most important thing in The Olympic Games is not to win but to take part, just as the saying goes: the most essential thing in life is not the triumph but the struggle, something you have fought for.

  6. We can appreciate that the total cost to carry all the Olympic winter games is very high and very expensive. But I think we can do campaigns for the poor people by contributing a percentage of this money to charity. We represent the union between the nations through sport but we should also encourage interest in other people!!!

I rely like Hockey but I never tried before!!! I hope I’ll do my best in my first time..

LETS GO CANADA!!! We can doit!!!

  7. The IOC should stop testing player's urine because it's the player's decision to do right or wrong. But they will regret their bad decisions and they will never win if they cheat. Drugs and steroids are bad for their health and it can ruin their future.

  9. I beg to differ. The IOC should not stop testing the players for performance-enhancing drugs. Using drugs in a game is a way of cheating. It can hype up a person and even cause serious health problems, which will, later on, become the hindrance to their triumphs. The players in the Olympics are role models for other people, especially youth. They are one of the people that we look up to. Olympics may be based purely on talent. However, what is important to the viewers is the ability to excellently perform with a character

  12. My favorite winter sport to watch is figure skating because i start like figure skating when i was young until now . When i saw the people who skating in the ice i just feel the person is flying in the sky .

  13. No, I don’t agree that the IOC should stop testing for performance-enhancing drugs during the Olympic events. The reason for this is because it’s not fair for the athletes who do not use drugs. These athletes put in a lot of effort in training for their sports event. If they were to compete against each other, someone who used performance-enhancing drugs will have higher potential of success. To make the Olympics more wonderful, the IOC should restrict usage of doping of the athletes.

  16. My favourite winter sport is Figure Skating . Because I love the ways when people enjoy their performance while they skating ... it's so beautiful ! As watching a professional figure skating routine is like watching a really legit magic show. I'm completely captivated, and at the same time, completely dumbfounded over how the performers are able to do what they do.

  21. Winter Olympic is a good but a worth money action. For Olympic, it is a symbol of the sports in our mind, but for a country, it is a huge spending for them. Although it can bring the country which celebrated some political interest or give some company’s benefit, it is a not good idea for country. Like the last time of Olympic Games in Brazil, they built many gyms for the athlete, but after the Olympic game finish, they have the horrible economic issues and they let the venue abandoned, that is outweigh the benefit. So I think it is good but worth money.

  22. 1.$13billion is a huge amount of money but I think it's worth the cost. The Olympic Games is an important event to show the overall strength of the host country. But in fact, not every country is rich enough to pay for the event and not feel hard. Many poor regions in the world are waiting for help. So we needn't to invest too much money to show ourselves, the main purpose should be the sports talents exchanges. Investing funds is ok ,but don't just to show off!
2.I don't agree with this statement. Doping is harmful to athletes health. IOC tries to prevent doping in order to protect athletes. Another reason is that preventing doping ensures fairness. Doping will make the Olympic Games pointless as well.

  23. 3. Do you plan to watch the Olympics and Paralympics? Why or why not?

    — I plan to watch the Olympics and Paralympics. Because every players showed the features of the country. It is not only a skills competition for us, but also exhibit each other and learn from each other and show the result of your efforts. And the race including lots of intesting and attractive competition items such as figure skating, skiing, short track speed skating and so on. So I’m very glad o watch it.

  24. My favourite winter sport is FIGURE SKATING. Because this winter sport not only shows us the sense of beauty in dance but the speed of figure skating also stimulates human sense perception.

  25. I disagree with this statement. Generally, IOC compete helps athletes have a better performance and then a better grade, which is not fair for those do not have it. In addition, Olympics’ spirit is “The important thing is not to win, but to take part”, and “viewing athletes as trying best not winning the gold”. Therefore, using athletes’ true ability by not having IOC compete is a great illustration of Olympics’ spirit.

  26. 1. In my opinion, The Olympic Games are worth the cost . Because right now is in the 21st century, for now, there will be no more massive war than before. Everyone in the world must exercise to improve their health and the quality of life.
Therefore, no matter how much we need to spend, we must do something to make the Earth more and more peaceful.
    2. I totally disagree with this because remember that the most basic requirement is that any competition is fair, We must not cheat in order to win the championship. We must observe discipline. The IOC must combat these cheating.
    3. I plan to watch the Olympics and the Paralympics because my country has participated in many of them and I am proud when I see my country winning a prize. So this is why I always watch at the Olympics and Paralympics.

  27. Olympics are one of the most prestigious events of all time, it is a massive event where athletes from all over the globe compete to prove their best in certain sports. Although it is a very respected occasion, there are still people that uses the thing called "doping" or using drugs to give them better performance during the sports. Now in my opinion, It should still be banned or illegalized. Olympics is where athletes express their passion or demonstrate their very best on their sports. If people uses drugs just to win, where's the glory on it?.

  28. In my opinion , I completely disagree with this statement because I believe the olompics have to still take care of the players by testing their blood or stuff like and the big reason is to make sure they are not hurting themselves, and in order to be an equal competition and to give each players their rights .
